Alfredo Mendoza Ahuatzin
In 2011, he received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Montreal. He attended the University of Alberta where he received a Bachelor and a Master of Music degrees under the guidance of Dr. William H. Street. In 2008, he attended the Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt in Germany. He is the recipient of grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.
Alfredo’s musical interests range from the renaissance and traditional saxophone repertoire, all the way to the electroacoustic and the avant-garde. Recordings of Alfredo can be found online in solo and chamber music settings (Ahuatzin, Consonnances modernes).
Based in Montreal since 2008, Alfredo Mendoza is a faculty member at École de musique Vincent-d’Indy. He is a sought-after clinician and pedagogue in the region where he loves teaching the younger generations. Since 2010, Alfredo has been a member of the Nelligan Saxophone Quartet with whom he enjoys playing tenor saxophone.
He is also a saxophonist with the Royal Canadian Air Force band in St-Hubert.
